Independence Days - Surprising summers from America’s Gilded Age:
Mary E. Wilkins Freeman’s “A Gala Dress” Fourth-of-July fireworks and a prying neighbor threaten two sisters‘ long-held secret
Belle Brittan shares her 1857 visit to Cape May—where young ladies and gents mingle daringly on the same beach!
O. Henry’s “The Lickpenny Lover” In which a rich, sheltered bachelor falls for a worldly-wise shopgirl . . .and confusion ensues
Actress Michèle LaRue revels in writings from America’s Gilded Age. Her repertoire of Tales Well Told was born 30 years ago, in Cape May. Here, she and others performed vintage short stories on porches and in parlors for the original East Lynne Company. Michèle has toured her Tales nationally for more than two decades, always returning to Cape May. She is delighted to be performing a fourth time in the new Cape May City Branch space.
