Beginner Mah Jongg

Session A Instructed by Debbie Thomas

4-week workshop. Registration REQUIRED. Please purchase a 2026 National Mah Jongg League card prior to the first class.

There will be two sessions of Beginner Mah Jongg; Session A running 6/9, 6/16, 6/23, & 6/30, and Session B running 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, & 7/28.

Registrants may attend ONLY ONE of these sessions.

During this four week workshop for beginners, you will learn the National Mah Jongg League game. By using their rules and 2026 card you will learn the names of the tiles, how to interpret the card, and basic play.

Attendees should bring their own American Mah Jongg set if they have one. 

The class will take place on Tuesdays from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at the Wildwood Crest Library on the following dates:

• June 9th
• June 16th
• June 23rd
• June 30th

Registrants must be able to attend all 4 dates of this class. If absent for the first class, your spot will be given to the next registrant on the Waitlist.

My name is Debbie Thomas and I have been playing Mah Jongg for 30+ years. I have been teaching the game at the Adult School of Ridgewood, NJ, and Cape May County Library for the past 5+ years. I am grateful to now add Ocean City Library to my resume.

I have organized several Mah Jongg tournaments as well as played in them in various locations in NJ and NY.

I have 4 children, enjoy reading, knitting, needlepoint, and competitive tennis and of course, playing and teaching Mah Jongg.
