Registration REQUIRED.
Cheryl Knowles-Harrigan, an Atlantic Cape Community College professor of art, will lead participants in a workshop to sharpen their awareness of space, volumes, and subtleties in drawing. Recognizing the nuances of volumes will help you draw better when translating 3D forms to a surface or working from a photograph. In this workshop we will explore gesture, negative space, ellipses (and the problems with ellipses), sustained drawing, light and shadow (how to lock in), and structure and speed in dry and wet media. (Wet media materials will be supplied. Some drawing devices will be loaned.)
Supply list for participants:
Participants will need a variety of pencils from 2B to 6B (such as 2B, 4B, 6B), a mechanical pencil 2B, a white eraser (no pink erasers please!), a swatch of soft cloth, and a durable *multi-media sketchbook that can handle wet and dry media – I like the spiral bound Canson XL Mix Media Sketchbook. 9 x 12 or 11 x 14 in size (paper is 98 lb). If you have more than one sketchbook please bring it. Participants should bring a few simple landscape photographs and still-life items such as 2 fruits or 2 vegetables.
*Regular paper sketchbooks just used for drawing in pencil will not handle wet media well and will buckle and soak through to other pages.
~Bring a snack – the workshop goes through the lunch hour but we will take a 15-minute snack break.
